Zhenya Strigalev’s 2025 Quartet features:
Ivo Neame (piano), Ewan Hastie (bass) and Joel Barford (drums)

Zhenya Strigalev (Eric Harland, Ambrose Akinmusire, Tim Lefebvre, Chris “Daddy” Dave, Alex Sipiagin, William Parker, Aaron Parks) has always been known for intense and memorable playing with a unique sound on his saxophones. He has absorbed the techniques and sounds of both jazz history and also from around the globe.

On this tour Zhenya celebrates creation of his new Quartet consisting of leading UK pianist Ivo Neame (Phronesis, Marius Neset), Scottish bass talent, Ewan Hastie and drum virtuoso, Joel Barford. They will play his new original compositions as well as music from his last albums “JZ Replacement”, “The Change” and “Blues For Maggie”.

Zhenya Strigalev Bio:
Since graduating from London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Music, where Zhenya was invited on the full scholarship, Zhenya has cut a dynamic path between the London and New York jazz scenes.

He’s worked with some of today’s most forward thinking musicians (including Eric Harland, Ambrose Akinmusire, Tim Lefebvre, Chris “Daddy” Dave, Alex Sipiagin, William Parker, Aaron Parks, Joseph “Foley” McCreary from Miles Davis fame, Larry Grenadier) and has appeared at many prestigious jazz festivals and concert venues, performing extensively in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Czech Republic, Austria, Britain, Switzerland, Chile, Argentina, Peru.

He has recorded more than 6 albums with his groups Smiling Organizm, Never Group, JZ Replacement. His music is played on BBC radio as well as national radio stations in Austria, Germany, Finland, Switzerland, Australia, France. He enjoys the challenge of shining a light on the undiscovered, and describes the desired on-the-edge thrill that unfolds: “The whole point of what I do is that I need to surprise myself”.

His repertoire consists mostly of original compositions as well as some jazz classics in original arrangements.
