Unveiling of the sculpture of Krystina Skarbek
Krystina Skarbek a.k.a. Christine Granville, was the first woman to serve Britain as a Special Agent during the Second World War. She was honoured with an OBE, George Medal and the French Croix de Guerre in recognition of her courage and achievements. She was a patriotic Pole but chose to serve Britain when she found herself unable to return to Poland in 1939. Ognisko has commissioned a bust to be displayed in our club which has been created by conceptual artist and sculptor Ian Wolter, winner of the Venice Arte Laguna Prize 2016 and the Global Sustainability Art Prize in 2015. Clare Mulley, who has written a biography of Krystina Skarbek, 'The Spy who Loved' will be giving a short talk and we will be hosting drinks afterwards.
