The OGNISKO ENSEMBLE gave its first concert in 2015 at Ognisko Polskie in London where it is now resident for its 2018 International Chamber Music Series. Founded and directed by violinist Michał Ćwiżewicz, the ensemble brings together leading chamber musicians in programmes featuring string and piano ensembles, song and instrumental recitals, as well as collaborating with illustrious guest artists from the UK and abroad. The Ognisko Ensemble will be performing concerts at the Polish Hearth throughout the year. Fresh from a spectacular launch of the 2018 Concert Series together with the acclaimed Harlem Quartet, the Ognisko Ensemble return with a programme of works for violin, cello and piano.
Chopin's Polonaise Brilliante in C Major, Op.3 (for cello & piano) a rare gem in which the composer's generally solitary instrument is joined by the Cello for a work full of youthful Polish sentiment and unashamedly brilliant virtuosity.
Frank Bridge's Phantasie Trio in C minor, H.79 is a work of lavish beauty and unreserved romanticism, whose seemingly fantastical themes are elegantly combined in a single expanded sonata movement that contains within it two episodes - an andante and scherzo.
Tchaikovsky's Trio in A minor, Op. 50 is truly monumental - symphonic rather than chamber-music. There is far too much to say about this incredible work to condense here, so I have instead attached a note written by our pianist John Paul Ekins (which you can read here.)
Piano: John Paul Ekins
Violin: Michal Cwizewicz
Cello: Ella Rundle
