In Search of Chopin: a singular genius

THE CHOPIN SOCIETY UK in association with Ognisko Polskie present an illustrated talk by BRYCE MORRISON

We are delighted that Britain’s leading piano critic and connoisseur, Bryce Morrison, has agreed to give the Chopin Society an illustrated talk “In Search of Chopin: a singular genius”.

This will be a fascinating occasion, as no-one could be better suited to discuss this subject, not only because of his profound knowledge of Chopin and the piano, but also because of his famous use of language, which will guarantee that his talk will be entertaining as well as informative. He will use CDs as illustration.

Bryce Morrison studied piano with famous teachers including Alexander Uninsky, winner of the 1932 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. He has published extensively in all the British national press, broadcast frequently on the BBC, been a jury member of over 50 International Piano Competitions, published interviews with Horowitz, Rubinstein, Arrau, Argerich, Curzon, Pollini, Kissin - indeed virtually all the major pianists of the day - and encouraged young artists.

The Society is privileged to have such an eminent figure come and give a talk for us.

We are also indebted to the Committee of Ognisko (The Polish Hearth Club), who have included us in their programme of special events celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Poland regaining its independence in 1918.

We will be offering a free glass of wine plus nibbles to all who attend this occasion. However, because of limited space and a maximum audience of 120 being permitted, booking is essential. A booking form can be found below.

It’s no use turning up on the door, but for those who are too late to book by post, it is worth telephoning Secretary Gill Newman on 020 8960 4027 just before the date to see if there are any last-minute tickets.

We do hope you can come to this very special event and look forward to seeing you. The Chopin Society’s regular Newsletter will follow in August.
