James Wiltshire, after reading Classics, Philosophy, and Logic at Cambridge worked as a Systems Analyst on one of the earliest computers designed specifically for Commercial Applications, The LEO Computer. The speaker reflects on the origins, and the historical and intellectual pressures which led to the construction of Universal Computing Machines and the contribution made by Polish Astronomers and mathematicians to what is now a sine qua non of modern life.
