Blood and Silver - Jan Glazewski
This true story entails a treasure hunt that really did take place, looking for the family silver buried almost 80 years earlier on the family estate by the author’s father, Gustaw Glazewski.
The Nazis had already invaded Poland, and on 17th September, 1939, the Soviet Union also invaded what was then Eastern Poland. As a landowner Gustaw knew he would be arrested by the Red Army, and decided he had to leave as soon as possible. But before leaving Gustaw buried the family silver in a forest on the estate.
After the war the Polish border was redrawn and the family estate was then within Ukraine. Gustaw and his wife left Europe and arrived in South Africa in 1948. Their son Jan was born in 1953, and it was Jan who decided to return to the family estate, with a map drawn by his father, showing the location of the buried silver. In 2019 Jan arrived at the spot indicated on the map and began digging.
We can’t possibly reveal the ending ! This is reserved for the author to tell us in person, and Jan is travelling to London from his home in South Africa to take us through his extraordinary story.
Copies of the book will be available on the evening, signed by the author.
